JAPAN ANTARCTIC STUDY This is a brief history of the various JARE stating with the first unofficial 1971 expedition. This is a collection of covers on pages and starts with the first 1956 cover to commemorate departure of Japan research Expedition. The next is a JARE 1 cover with special cachets of 1957. The next is a JARE II cover which is personal correspondence posted 30 Jan 1957 with appropriate cachets. JARE III sees a postcard with Japan stamp tied CAPE TOWN PAQUEBOT 19 XII 58. Has Research Cachet at left. On same page is a JARE III commem cover and has cachet and cancelled stamp on reverse as well. Jare IV there is an illustrated 1960 cover Honouring 4th Observer. at Antarctic "Soya" Prov. Post Office at Showa Base. JARE V has illustrated cover with Base name in English and Japanese cachet. JARE VI cover again is coloured illustrated cover with cachet showing helicopter dropping supplies. Then there are covers from JARE VII, JARE VIII, JARE IX, JARE X when Japanese party achieve traverse to Sth Pole, Jare XI cover illustrating in cachet the use of rockets to gain information from Upper Atmospheres, JARE XII with rocket date stamp and cachet, Jare XIII another cover with red rocket scenic date stamp. The last cover is from JARE IVX and while showing slight aging has been signed by the Team Leader. It is noted here that this is rare for cover to be signed by Base staff.
